SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Software Engineer will help design and code the master controller for the Energy Storage Solution. This controller will communicate with battery towers, power electronics, battery safety systems, host controllers, HVAC systems and other miscellaneous controllers over Modbus TCP/IP connections. The individual will lead development of software requirements, architecture, and design documents, flow charts and software modules and will also help with software module level validation to meet the product’s high level specifications. The position requires solid understanding of the products from the system architecture through module level design. The ideal candidate should have a thorough understanding of product development, including conceptual, developmental and production phases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Edit and improve software requirements, software architecture and software design documentation
  • Code C/C++ Software modules using multiple threads and the BOOST libraries
  • Participate in or lead teams tasked with completing the software development
  • Participate in system level design review
  • Leading and coaching junior engineers and technicians in various engineering assignments
  • Set development goals and metrics and provide progress reports
  • Lead new product development activities, thrive in a concurring engineering environment and bring products to final production
  • Reports to the Director of Engineering

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSEE or equivalent from an accredited institution required
  • 5+ years of experience working in a product development environment
  • Knowledge of software requirements, architecture and documentation
  • Experience designing and developing software applications, tools, systems, and services using Object-Oriented Design
  • In-depth understanding of communication interfaces including RS485, MODBUS, TCP/IP and CAN
  • High level software experience (i.e. LabView, C/C++, Visual Basic, Pspice, Matlab and PLC)
  • Complex systems integration and testing knowledge (planning and execution)
  • Work in an agile (SCRUM) engineering environment
  • Ability to plan and undertake root cause investigations and determinations
  • Proficiency in engineering design, analysis, integration, debug, manufacturing, and documentation tools
  • Ability to read and comprehend mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and flowcharts
  • Experienced with EE lab equipment such as multi-meters, power meters, signal sources, and oscilloscopes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, collaborative skills, and cross-functional interface skills
  • Effective communication of project results in written reports and presentations
  • Ability to solve problems by identifying root causes, analyzing possible solutions, and taking appropriate action
  • Works well with deadlines
  • Works well in a team environment and has the ability to quickly develop rapport and maintain relationships
  • Follows all CODA Energy, O.S.H.A., and EPA standards including the use of Personal Protective Equipment, and proper waste disposal in required areas

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Combination of both office and outdoor environment; may include working at times in noisy and/or inclement weather conditions
  • Requires walking or standing for an extended periods of time
  • Requires working overhead and in tight spaces for extended periods of time
  • Requires full body mobility and being able to twist, turn, bend at the waist, squat and go up and down stairs
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
